I trained in Theatre & Performance Design at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts in 2008. Since then I have designed for small and mid scale venues, as well as for site specific spaces across England. My role as a Designer has been to give a visual language to plays by new writers, sometimes collaborating with the cast who inhabit this World and building collective ownership in the process of theatre-making.
I have designed the sets, costumes, props, created puppets through scale model and maquette making, free drawing, technical drawings and creation of mood boards as tools to communicate design themes, problem solving and logistics of managing movement through performance. I have worked alongside directors in the early design stage to explore, research and determine the concepts, contexts and nuances of the characters and plot, discovering new avenues and forms that feel fitting to the storytelling.
I have also written for theatre and carried out stage management roles. I have performed with Bunraku puppets and a Theatre For One puppet show at festivals in the UK. I have also delivered puppetry making workshops in community spaces, schools and in a prison setting.
